DAIMARI (Jalah), Feb 24 – Six elephants, two females and four males were today released at Daimari under Bhuapora range office in Baksa district near Daimari beat office of Manas National Park. The elephants were translocated from Kaziranga Nationals Park yesterday. The programme was jointly organisd by Wildlife Trust of India and Bodoland Territorial Council Forest Department, and was sponsored by International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and under the aegis of the Manas Maorigendri Ecotourism Society (MMES).
The programme was the first of its kind in India. For the elephants, the first gate of Manas National park was formally opened by Kampa Bargoyary, deputy chief of BTC and an executive member. The elephants release programme was formally inaugurated by Dr AJ Cady, Director of Emergency Relief of International Fund for Animal Welfare, USA and Sri Bargoyary.
