Experts reach GL Puram to find way to curb wild elephants

VIZIANAGARAM: Forest Department officials have reached Puttajammuvalasa village in Gummalakshmipuram mandal, near where a herd of elephants was sighted moving.

The trackers, mahouts and trained elephant Jayant from Chittoor district are expected to reach the affected places on Friday night and start drawing up an action plan to curb the menace the wild herd poses to human habitations, District Forest Officer BV Ramanababu told this website’s newspaper.

Meanwhile, according to reliable sources, seven persons were crushed to death by wild elephants in recent times in Rayagada district.

Rayagada District Forest Officer Patro visited Parvatipuram on Friday and held discussions with the forest range officer Rama Rao to find a solution.

Forest Department advisor from Hyderabad, M Navin Kumar, and wildlife doctor of Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam, V Srinivasa Rao are already camping in GL.Puram mandal to assess the situation.
