MADIKERI: Former law minister M C Nanaiah urged District In-charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda to call a high-level meeting to tackle the wild elephant menace in the district. Addressing a meeting called by Siddapura-Maldaare residents led by C A Nanda Subbaiah to discuss the issue at the Kodava Samaja Hall here on Wednesday, Nanaiah said that the meeting should be attended by Kodagu District In-charge Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and other senior officers of all departments along with people’s representatives from the district.
He cautioned that if the government would not respond to the issue, people would take law into their hands. ‘‘So far, the government has no blue print to tackle the issue,’’ he said and suggested people file a public interest litigation in the High Court seeking justice.
He also advised seek help from the Kodagu Asthithva Horata Samiti to fight against the issue at higher level.
