JIYYAMMAVALASA: The elephant menace will end soon with the high profile Operation Gajendra going on successfully in the forests of Jiyyammavalasa Mandal in the district.

Two more wild elephants have been sedated today in the forest areas of Jiyyammavalasa Mandal. During the third day’s operation on Friday, the officials and elephant handling experts captured two more jumbos and the operation is going on in full swing to catch three more elephants on Friday night.

The heroic counter-attacks of the perfectly matched elephant expert team headed by Vijay Anand Choudhury on the one side and the well coordinated official machinery under the guidance of Additional Chief Wildlife Warden AV Joseph has succeeded in controlling the elephants.

Speaking to this website’s newspaper Joseph said that arrangements are being made to transport the captured elephants to the Vizag zoo.

It was a hair-raising experience for the officials when the restive herd charged the team after two jumbos collapsed after being hit by tranquilising bullets.
