Statesman November 6, 2007 BARIPADA, Nov. 6: At least 24 elephants of Jharlhand, are destroying agricultural lands near the border of the Mayurbhanj district in the Karanjhi areas. According to the forest personnel of Simlipal Tiger Reserve, crop lands in the three panchayats under the Karanjia range of Simlipal forest have been damaged by the elephants. The animals have suddenly made their entry into the said areas. The forest personal have rushed to the spot, but no step has been taken yet. At least, three houses of the tribals near the Simlipal forest area have already been destroyed. The forest officials said that they are inquiring into the matter. |
