KOLKATA: Elephants raided the relief camps of flood victims at Nayagram in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district on Sunday and consumed much of the foodstuff stocked there.
Divisional Forest Officer, Kharagpur, Milan Kanti Mondal said a group of four male elephants was responsible for the incidents.
Elephant herds make seasonal forays from the Dolma hills in search of food.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised in various quarters over relief operations undertaken in Paschim and Purbo Medinipur districts. On Tuesday, villagers, alleging discrimination in relief distribution, confronted two Ministers visiting the flood-hit areas.
The death toll from the floods in the two districts has risen to 35.
