Brace for more elephant trouble ahead if temperature soars
SRIKAKULAM: Residents of many mandals in the district are constantly living in fear since many years due to the threat posed by elephants. Earlier, they were scared of the destruction of summer crops like mango, cashew and sugar cane by the marauding herds. But now, it is the threat to their lives that keeps them indoors, particularly during night time.
After a tribal man was trampled to death by tuskers in Kottur district on Saturday night, the 23rd such case in the region in the last few years, the fear factor has doubled. Locals have appealed to officials concerned, from the forest department and the police, to keep a tab on the movement of tuskers and alert people through mass media like radio and television.
