Tusker found dead in farmland near Coimbatore

A male elephant was found dead in a farmland at Mathipalayam in Madhukkarai range on Wednesday morning. Forest officials said it could be a case of electrocution. They would book the farmer after collecting evidences.

Forest officials said the 20-year-old tusker had wandering in the area for the past three months. It was a crop raider.

Around 6am, the locals found the carcass of the elephant and informed the forest officials who reached the spot immediately.

“We have conducted postmortem, and we think it is a case of electrocution. Based on the reports and evidences, we will take legal action,” said conservator of Coimbatore circle S Ramasubramanian.

Last year, five elephants including two claves were electrocuted in Coimbatore region, said forest officials. “We booked a case against two farmers,” said an official.
