Wild elephant kills man in Gudalur forest



A 39-year-old man was killed after crossing the path of a wild elephant near Elumaram village in Gudalur forest range on Wednesday. G. Ramakrishnan, Forest Range Officer, Gudalur, said P. Vijayakumar, an estate worker, was passing through a tea estate on his way back home when he came across a wild elephant, which attacked and killed him. Forest department officials said an interim relief of ₹50,000 was handed over to his family on Friday after the post-mortem. “We believe that the confrontation was accidental and are taking steps to ensure that incidents like this do not recur,” he added.
