Jumbos kill farmer in Nuapada
Nuapada: A herd of elephants trampled an elderly farmer to death at Karangabhata village under Komna forest range in the district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sahedev Parabhue of Karangabhata village.
The incident occurred when Parabhue was in his farmland guarding his paddy crop. Though he had spotted the herd, before he could flee the spot, the animals trampled him to death. Forest officials, including Komna forest range officer Jagadish Duria, rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
A sources said a herd of elephants arrived in the forest of Nuapada district from the neighbouring Turekela forest of Balangir district. Panic gripped Karangabhata after the incident as seven elephants, including four tuskers and three calves, were found near the hamlets.
