4 Dudhwa elephants will be shifted to PTR

This will ensure timely combing of cane and other cropped fields for stray tigers, especially those lurking amid the cane.For long, PTR officials had been demanding requisitioning of elephants that would permanently be stationed in Pilibhit to address any situation of a tiger straying out of the forest.According to officials, farmers cultivate sugarcane in the areas adjoining the periphery of PTR. Pilibhit: Days after 10 elephants arrived in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Lakhimpur Kheri district from Karnataka, principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) (PCCF) SK Upadhyay approved a proposal to provide four of these pachyderms to Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR).“The elephants sent to DTR from Karnataka will remain in quarantine for a period of three to four months to enable them to adapt to new forest area in the tarai region.
