Elephant calves death: Forest department zeroes in on accused

MANGALURU: Hassan forest department officials have confirmed that the death of the two male elephant calves, deep inside the Shiradi Ghat forest area, was due to a goods train moving in that section on Sunday night. The Hassan DCF said such incidents can very well be prevented, if the loco pilots take enough care while moving through the ghat section and forest areas. It is not clear whether they had used lights and horns frequently, and slowed down the speed of the train in the stretch. The investigation, currently conducted by an ACF, will throw more light into the incident.”The forest department has registered a complaint under Section 200 of CrPC, and also various sections under the Wildlife Protection Act, against the accused.Could this have been prevented? “We have to know from the accused as to what exactly happened.
