Elephants trample four people to death in India

NEW DELHI - At least four people were trampled to death by wild elephants in India’s north-eastern state of Assam, a news report said on Friday.

A dozen elephants attacked a group of villagers on Thursday at the Salna reserved forest area, 145 kilometres east of the state capital Guwahati, the IANS news agency reported.

“The herd chased a group of woodcutters and literally tore apart two of them,” A Das, a wildlife official, was quoted by the news agency as saying.

Other members of the group managed to escape from the rampaging herd, the official said
