Bhubaneswar , Oct 29: One of the two rogue elephants that were tranquilised and brought from Andhra Pradesh on Sunday was found dead inside Lakhari forest in Orissa's Gajapati district on Monday morning.
The female elephant, which was found dead near a water body, is said to have died due to overdose of tranquiliser. The death of the elephant due to shock is also not being ruled out. However, the exact reason of its death would be known after post mortem.
Meanwhile, the forest authorities of Gajapati district have asked their counterpart in Andhra Pradesh to stop sending the remaining seven elephants in a similar manner.
The Andhra Pradesh authorities had brought two female elephants by two separate trucks by administering tranquiliser on the pachyderm from time to time.
