Missing elephant traced in Orissa forest

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: The female elephant that had gone missing in Lakhari forest in Orissa's Gajapati district since Tuesday has been traced, according to forest department sources.

The elephant was spotted near a stream by the residents of Angarabhasha hamlet, who accordingly informed the forest officials in Chandragiri on Friday. The pachyderm was seen moving inside the forest alone.

The forest staff confirmed it to be the same elephant that had gone missing by matching its footprints as well as judging its approximate age.

The elephant was transported by Andhra Pradesh authorities along with another female elephant and the two were released in Lakhari forest on Sunday last. However, the other elephant was found dead on Monday morning.
