PANAJI — The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh has assured the state government of all the support in controlling the wild elephants, which are presently causing trouble along the Maharashtra-Goa border.
The Forest Minister, Mr Philipe Neri Rodrigues, who met Mr Deshmukh and discussed the issue on Wednesday morning, later told ‘The Navhind Times’ that the Maharashtra Chief Minister has extended all the support and co-operation to Goa in elephant control operation. “I informed Mr Deshmukh about some hindrances being created in such an operation from the Maharashtra side,” he informed.
Mr Rodrigues informed that he would approach the Union ministry for forests if such a need arises while finding a long-term solution to the problem.
He disclosed that the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat spoke to Mr Deshmukh on telephone on Wednesday and sought his support in the matter.
