Assam: Woman trampled to death by elephants in Goalpara



GUWAHATI, April 30, 2018: In a conflict between man-animal, one 55-year-old woman was killed by an elephant.

The decease identified as Nikubala Rabha hailing from Makri village under Balijana development block of Goalpara district was killed by an elephant that entered her house on Saturday from the neighboring Pancharatna hills.

Source said Nikubala was at a loss finding the jumbo inside the house and before she could escape, it seized her with its trunk and thrashed her on the ground. The elephant also damaged her house and devoured the stored paddy.

The residents claimed that Nikubala was the elephant’s ninth victim. Goalpara forest ranger Ayaz Uddin said a team was deployed near the village but the jumbo took advantage of darkness and bad weather to attack the house.

The forest department later recovered Nikubala’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
