Chevrolet saves wild elephants in Thailand
Following the success of its CSR project “Chevrolet Saves Wild Elephants” with Thai media earlier this year, Chevrolet Thailand welcomed more than 80 of its customers and employee representatives to also participate in the project. The customers and employees helped to build artificial salt licks and paint semi-permanent fences to help nourish and protect wildlife in Kaeng Krachan National Park, located in Huai Satyai, Prachuap Kirikhan province. The customers and employees also donated supplies to the authority of Kaeng Krachan National Park, adding to the previous efforts of participating members of the Thai media.
To support this ongoing initiative, Chevrolet is cooperating with park officials and local communities to curtail human-elephant conflict in the area, which is a major concern for elephant conservation in Thailand’s largest national park. The project is further supported by academic institutes and non-governmental organisations looking to provide elephants with access to artificial salt licks, a source of essential nutrients, while preventing the animals from invading community areas. The customers and employee representatives also helped to build and paint semi-permanent fences to prevent wild elephants from invading farms, destroying crops and entering dangerous areas such as roads and driveways.
