Man trampled to death by rampaging elephant while terrified onlookers run for their lives



A man has been killed after a elephant went on a rampage at a temple in India as shocked onlookers could only watch.

A crowd tried to surround the large animal as it started to lose control in the town of Kerala.

Suddenly the elephant broke away and crushed a man underfoot who was unable to move quickly enough.

He is caught by the creature's huge ivory tusk, before being stamped on with its large foot.

People can be seen in the footage fleeing for their lives, while others can be heard screaming at the animal as the man is tossed about on the floor.

Rouge tusker tramples 43-yr-old tribal man to death



Udhagamandalam: A 43-year-old tribal man was trampled to death by a rogue tusker while grazing buffaloes close to Chemmanarai tribal hamlet in the Kotagiri division of forests here on Wednesday evening.The deceased was identified as D Mahalingam, a resident of Chemmanarai.

According to police, Mahalingam had on Wednesday gone out to a private land close to his village to graze buffaloes.

A tusker, meanwhile, strayed into the area and suddenly attacked him.“The elephant smashed Mahalingam’s head, killing him on the spot,” Srinivasan, Kotagiri forest range officer, told TOI.

“Elepant movements were never reported in Chemmanarai area.

The tusker might have strayed into the habitat in search of water,” he added.Hearing the elephant trumpeting, local residents informed forest officials, who reached the spot immediately and found the tusker roaming in the area.“We chased the elephant away into the forest and retrieved the body, which was sent to the Kotagiri government hospital,” the forest ranger said.Postmortem operation couldn’t be performed on Wednesday as the body reached the hospital only at night.

Tusker rescued from muddy pond near Alur



HASSAN: A two-hour operation on Monday culminated in the safe rescue of a tusker stuck in a slush-filled pond at Madhihalli of Alur taluk, Hassan district.According to K Harish , assistant conservator of forests, Hassan division, the tusker, around 12 years old, may have fallen into the pond on Sunday evening.

"It was trumpeting through the night.

As this area is infamous for animal-human conflict, we've advised locals not to venture out of their homes at night.

Early Monday morning, they rushed to the pond where they found the elephant trying to come out of the slush and alerted us.

We rushed there with a JCB ," he said.He added that the tusker was not violent.
