2 jumbos electrocuted
Madurai: Two female elephants were electrocuted in Meghamalai forest in Theni district. The incident came to light on Monday morning, when the forest personnel were on their regular rounds inside the Cumbum East forest range.
A team of forest officials and veterinarians will visit the spot, which can be reached after four hours of trekking, to conduct a postmortem. The age of electrocuted elephants is estimated between 10 to 12 years, said the forest officials.
Cumbum East forest range Dinesh said that the elephants could have been electrocuted when they came in contact with the live electric wire hanging low inside the forest. tnn
