Tusks seized, gang of seven arrested
MADURAI: Virudhunagar forest officers have arrested a gang of seven for
allegedly trying to sell a pair of elephant tusks. The arrests were made
while following up a tip-off received from sources.
According to officers, the forest team carried out a search on an electrical
shop belonging to one Ashok, a native of Sattur, and found two tusks
stashed away in his shop. The squad seized the tusks and arrested Ashok.
On being questioned, Ashok divulged the names of his accomplices and
foresters picked them up based on the inputs. The arrested are Ibrahim, a
snacks seller from Virudhunagar; autorickshaw drivers Pandi and Marimuthu; Marimuthu, who works in a Tasmac shop, Rajaguru, a retired employee from BSNL and Justin Prabakar, electrician
from Virudhunagar. TNN
