Villager injured in jumbo attack

BENGALURU: A villager from Ragihalli in Bannerghatta suffered grievous
injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant.

The incident took place around 5.30am on Saturday when Ravi Naika was
walking near Sevanayakanadoddi. An elephant emerged from behind the
trees and trampled the villager. Locals shifted him to hospital where he
was given first-aid. Since he had suffered injuries in his chest and
diaphragm, Ravi was shifted to a multi-speciality hospital in Bengaluru.

C Jayaram, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), said elephants
often roam the area in search of food. "Ravi has undergone surgery and
the forest department has sanctioned Rs 3 lakh for the expenses. I have
been told that his condition is stable," he added.
