This is the dramatic moment a wild elephant whose herd had trampled two men to death is chased down by forest rangers in a car chase.

The clip, filmed in Chhattisgarh, India, captures an elephant as it runs down a dirt road followed by forest range officers.

Sirens blare as they drive after the animal, illuminating the back of the mammal with headlights on the pitch-black road.

The car then turns a corner in hot pursuit of the elephant - and quickly comes to a stop when the animal turns in the street.

The elephant stares at the car for a moment before running backwards and again galloping down the dark road.
