Indian officials chase drug-addicted elephants

This is the moment Indian forest officials chased two elephants that had raided a brick kiln looking for intoxicants.

They drove the elephant mother and her calf back to the forest by chasing them with a jeep and bursting crackers.

Many wild elephants in Western Ghats, India, are addicted to the palmyra trunks, which they find intoxicating.

They often come out of the forest looking for the trunks, which are used as fuel in brick kilns.

On November 21st the two elephants raided a brick kiln near Coimbatore in South India and tried to break a wall to get in.

A couple, who lived near the kiln, ran for their lives and informed the forest department, which immediately dispatched a patrol team to the spot.
